Different ways to arrange a sectional2/28/2023 ![]() You can also get recliners in a sectional. It seems that your TV is the focal point and a sectional would work best for a family your size. You simply do not have the space to host that many pieces of furniture. I think if you bring in that many pieces of furniture people will be tripping over each other. Costco has some nice ones for the price that you paid for your sofa and love seat.īy the looks of it your husband is not getting rid of his recliner. ![]() It sounds like you have many children coming and going. My one question is.where is your dining table? I would think it would be off of the kitchen. Good luck! Renorobinīy the photos posted it appears that you are in a modular home. It adds another strata instead of furniture all being at waist level and lower. Not only does it hide the back of a sofa (not so pretty), it lifts the eye. You asked about furniture placement and I am writing about everything but! Could you get some light furniture instead of those big, bulky, dark pieces (sorry!) and place them in a square around a large glass (not big, solid, heavy, wood) coffee table in front of the fireplace? I find this space (see link below) too dark, personally, but check out 2 interesting things the glass coffee table which lightens the heaviness of the furnishings and the lamps on a table behind a sofa. You can even replace them every year if they don't do well. Can you add a large, 6 feet+ palm or two or three whose sweeping lines will offset the hard lines of the windows? They are so inexpensive. Light patterned or coloured curtains are a must (not sheers) not necessarily to ever pull closed, but to add some softness and 'gemütlichkeit' to the space that has a lot of hard, angular edges (windows, ceiling, built ins wall). ![]() Psychologically, we move towards the light because light gives life. Can you make everything on the light side now to offset the dark? A light carpet, plenty of lamps with light shades will lighten up the area. The fireplace and built ins and coffered ceiling are SO beautiful! Do you have a large light coloured or patterned area rug to define the space on which you are placing the sofas and chairs? Personally, I am not wild about all that dark furniture but that is what you have chosen. If they are natural clutterbugs (and some are) - make them put it in their rooms and close the door.:) Good luck.take your time. My Mother did this and at the time I thought she was so ridiculous - but now I get it and it's a great life skill I now really appreciate. You didn't mention kids' ages.but teach them young. Or maybe designate family room at back of house for their stuff. Since it's at the front of your house, you don't want to fight that battle day in and day out. If kids are going to bring clutter in, have storage ottoman or some other storage for that room only and insist the kids put the stuff into the storage when they leave the room. You want your room to breathe - don't fill it up too much and avoid clutter. ![]() Watch the scale of your furniture - many people seem to buy furniture, art, and tables that are entirely too large for their space. ![]() But, truly, if you want the sectional, go for it. I would stick with a couch or sofa - and not have that extra sq. I am not a fan of sectionals - I think they are too casual - better for a family room or basement rec room. All the placement ideas above are good - coach really can be on wall or on other side. ![]()
